HOW FARMERS CAN PREVENT THEFT

The Agriculture Patrol offers these tips to farmers:

• Report all crimes and suspicious activity, including cut fences and people selling supplies

• Request an Agricultural Patrol Watch Order upon delivery of large shipments of plastic planting pots, fertilizer or other supplies

• Property should be fenced, gated and well lit

• Use security cameras in strategic locations with tape back-up

• Have a caretaker live on the property

• Keep a list of all vehicle IDs and serial numbers of equipment

• Engrave equipment and tools with the business name and owner's driver's license number

• Store materials out of view

• Enclose pumps and other valuables in a locked cage

• Remove keys from equipment, and the battery from unattended tractors
